This video does a great job of explaining what the Habitat ReStore is all about.  Enjoy!

Thanks MECI

Thanks to Brett Cothren and Mark Shumate of MECI & Associates for their expertise and generosity.  They donated their time and equipment to install a high voltage  battery charger.  The Habitat ReStore purchased a new battery power lift truck which requires the charger.

We are affectionately calling the new lift truck “El Niño” because it is small but packs a punch.  Thanks again to MECI for helping to bring “El Niño” to life.

Fabrication Auction

We are excited to announce the upcoming Fabrication Auction, to be held Friday, October 16th at 7:00 PM at the Wilkes Art Gallery.

Dozens of local artists have selected various items from the ReStore that are being used to create works of art that will be sold by silent auction with all proceeds benefitting Wilkes Habitat for Humanity and Wilkes Art Gallery educational programs. The artwork will first be displayed at the free viewing party Friday, September 25th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and will be on display during the gallery’s normal operating hours up until the night of the Fabrication Auction.

This is a wonderful opportunity to support the work of Habitat for Humanity while enjoying an evening of local artwork. Hors d’oeuvres & refreshments will be served. Tickets to the event are $25.00 a piece, and can be purchased at the Wilkes Habitat ReStore and the Wilkes Art Gallery.

To view a collection of images of the artists and the items they have selected, please visit our Photo Gallery.

Things have been busy over the last several weeks at the Habitat ReStore. We had our first plant sale, celebrated one year of business, and added an intern.

Thanks to Donna Latham at Midtown Garden Market we had our first plant sale. Dona generously donated her end of season plants as she operates seasonally. You can see from the picture we were alive with plants thanks to Isaac’s green thumb and hard work.

We served up free hot dogs as part of our 1st year birthday party. We served over 100 dogs to customers on the anniversary of our grand opening Saturday August 15th. Thanks to Berry, Irene, and Annie for making it so much fun.

And last but not least we have added an impressive co-op student from Wilkes Community College. Ray Townsell comes to join our ranks for his final semester in the business program. I can’t wait to see what his skills and experience will add.

New Week Day Hours To Serve You Better
Tuesday – Friday 9:30am – 5:30pm

The Habitat ReStore is building materials thrift store, open to the public, whose proceeds support Habitat’s mission of providing affordable housing.  The ReStore accepts donations of furniture, appliances, and buidling materials.

In taking this time to let y’all know about our new store hours, we would also like to offer special thanks to Danny for all his hard work in helping to provide this unique way to support Habitat where you can shop, donate, or volunteer.

We couldn’t have done it without him.
