Wilkes Habitat for Humanity has built 20 homes here in Wilkes County since being founded almost 18 years ago, but the organization experienced an unexpected (and much welcomed) first when a gracious supporter donated this beautiful 3 bedroom, 2 bath home to the affiliate in December 2008. The home is located on Luffman Road in Ronda, and is being sold to raise funds in direct support of our afforable housing mission.

The move-in ready home sits on a nice 1 acre parcel in a private setting, and has an additional 1000 square feet of unfinished space upstairs. So if you or anyone you know is in the market, and would like to support the mission of Wilkes Habitat for Humanity along with your purchase of an attractive new home, look no further than Ronda, NC. The home is listed by Blair & Ward Properties, and is available for showing at your convenience.

We are so grateful for this donation, and look forward to the many families the funds from its sale will touch as we continue to build safe, affordable housing here in Wilkes County. Whether it’s a monetary contribution, a donation of property, or donations of items for resale at the affiliate’s ReStore, it really goes to show that there are many ways to financially support the mission of Wilkes Habitat for Humanity. We cannot express how truly thankful we are for our many faithful supporters.

On a Local advocay note I just got the stats on how many homes Wilkes Habitat for Humanity has helped to build.  You might know that we have built 20 in Wilkes county.  You might not know that we tithe to international affiliates to help reduce poverty housing on a global scale.

Since 1992 our tithe  has enable 26 houses to be built internationally.  We should be proud that makes our over all number 46 homes.  How is that possible?  The international numbers in 2008 are based on $4,500 per home, however in 1992 dollars it was $1,500. Compare that to what we spend on US houses and you realize it is a great deal.    In our 13 year history we have given $51,000 to help build the Lord’s Kingdom globally.

I hope this post will get us thinking about Habitats model and how cool it is to be involved with such a ministry.   It is so cool that we should Advocate!

I am heading down to Altanta this week for the Habitat for Humanity  National Conference.  I hope to network and learn some best practices from other Habitat affiliates.  They asked us to bring posters displaying one of our best practices.  I thought it might be fun to make my poster available to all who are interested via the web(click  on link).

I chose wordpress since it made my life easier.   I also thought it might be fun to enable comments on this post because I would like to hear your feedback regarding the website.

Please note: I am currently working on getting the logo at the top to say only “Wilkes Habitat for Humanity”. I have heard several folks say that it looks like a ReStore website.  But please do comment by clicking on the comment link in this post.
