Women Build

Mother's Day

This mother’s day, honor your mother – or another special woman in your life – with a $50 gift in support of Wilkes Habitat for Humanity’s newest Women Build home. A gift of $50 sponsors approximately one square foot of the home, giving your honoree a lasting gift that makes affordable home-ownership a reality for another hard working Wilkes County family.

Your honoree will receive a special Mother’s Day card from Wilkes Habitat for Humanity, and will also have the opportunity to leave her mark on the project by signing her very own square foot of the home and writing any message for the homebuyers that she would like to provide.

On Saturday, May 24th, join us at the build site between the hours of 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM to sign your names to your square foot of the home. The groundbreaking ceremony for the build will be held right at 2:00 PM that day, followed by the square signing and a meet-and-greet with the partner family that will be purchasing this home.

There are three easy ways to make your gift:

  1. Make Your Gift OnlinePlease include the name and mailing address of your honoree in the comment section.
  2. Call Lynda Greene at 838-3044 ext. 2, Tuesday-Friday, 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM.
  3. Simply send a check to: 320 Cothren Street, Wilkesboro, NC 28697. Please note “Mother’s Day” on your check and include the name and address your honoree.

Welcome to Women Build – Habitat’s volunteer program for women who want to learn construction skills and build homes and communities.

Women Build brings together women from all walks of life to address the housing crisis facing millions of women and children worldwide. Women Build events have helped to construct more than 1,800 houses.

Underwritten by Lowe’s, Habitat’s Women Build program recruits, educates and inspires women to build and advocate for simple, decent and affordable housing.

Women Build 2014

Wilkes Habitat for Humanity is excited to launch our third Women Build project, kicking off right here in May 2014. We will be renovating and remodeling a home that we repurchased from the original partner family when they moved; adding a second full bathroom and upgrading much of the rest of the home to modern standards. Like our 2011 project, this year’s Women Build home is being supported through a generous grant from Lowe’s totaling $12,500. Lowe’s is the national sponsor of Women Build, and we are so grateful for their continued support of the hometown community here in Wilkes.

This year’s build has also been supported by Stacie Taylor’s 1st & 2nd year architecture students at Wilkes Community College, who partnered with Habitat to create design proposals to meet our goal of adding a 2nd bathroom. The winning design was created by John Welborn, and supported by the entire class. Thank you to the entire Wilkes Community College team for your support of our build!

The home is located at 185 Beaver Dam Lane in North Wilkesboro.

Women Build 2011

Wilkes Habitat for Humanity kicked off our second Women Build project in Wilkes County in 2011 with a great outpouring of community support and an outstanding group of volunteers. The build was made possible through the hard work of our many Women Build committee members and volunteers, as well as through a generous grant from the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation. We are very grateful for Lowe’s outstanding support of the Women Build program both nationally and right here in Wilkes County.
